Death Becomes Her (1992) Review

The really interesting, decent part of Death Becomes Her lasts about twenty minutes. I remember always thinking this film looked interesting because of the moment in the trailers that showed Meryl Streep and Goldie Hawn, beating each other to what would be death, but the both of them surviving. It showed Meryl Streep’s neck all bent out of shape and Goldie Hawn with a huge hole in the middle of her stomach after a shotgun attack. I was expecting a film where the bulk of the movie was these two woman attacking each other and the cool special effects that … Continue reading Death Becomes Her (1992) Review

Looper (2012) Review

Before I saw Looper, I drove past a billboard poster which had a very bold but excitement-inducing statement across the top – “This decade’s The Matrix.” Now I love The Matrix. Its one of my favourite films (I even like the second one but I won’t get into that argument here.) So when I see a statement like that, I’m expecting benchmark-setting special effects, mind-blowing action, a very cool story and a concept that keeps you thinking way after you have left the cinema. I can see why that comparison was made. There are some aspects to Looper that are very Matrix. Its … Continue reading Looper (2012) Review

Total Recall (1990) Review

I have one main issue with Arnold Schwarzenegger; I will never look like him! I don’t mean “win the lottery, get plastic surgery and change my face” look like him but I’ll never be the size of Arnie. I’m sure I could manage it eventually if I put the work in, trained for a ridiculous amount of hours everyday, eat the right foods and took the right vitamins/steroids but I’m lazy. I’m a guy who loves to spend hours on end watching films of all different types so the thought of me dedicating my life to becoming the size of Arnie … Continue reading Total Recall (1990) Review

Planet Terror (2007) Review

When it came to the two Grindhouse films, Rodriguez made the clever choice and consequently the superior film. He realised that the best aspect of the B-movie, Grindhouse films was the gore, scantily clad woman, poor to hammy acting and ridiculous story. It had to be horror but in a “ram-it-down-your-throat” kind of way. While Tarantino had some of that, it always felt like a Tarantino film in a Grindhouse style rather than a dedication to Grindhouse. The biggest difference? – Zombies! It’s simple really. Zombies offer you gore, blood, horror (but not the tense, creepy kind) and humour, either … Continue reading Planet Terror (2007) Review

Ten films you should be excited about in 2012!

When I actually wrote down all the films I think will be “must see” for this year, I actually got a list of twenty-one!!! I decided the best thing to try to do would be to narrow it down to a good ten. The ten I’m most excited about seeing because of the hype around them, the trailers, the actual story within the film itself or the fact that the earlier films in the series have been good. So without further ado, we begin at number ten… 10 – The Pirates! In an adventure with Scientists. It was the trailer … Continue reading Ten films you should be excited about in 2012!
