The cinema is too expensive. Considering all you are doing is sitting for an hour and a half, watching a huge television screen, it shouldn’t cost as much as it does (don’t even get me started on popcorn!) Regardless of the cost though, there are some films that I can’t wait to watch on Blu-Ray. These are films that I’ve been looking forward to or look absolutely amazing based on trailers or other details. These are my Cinema Films – films I will pay that little bit extra to watch at the cinema.
So with no further ado – here are the ten films that I am looking forward to most and will definitely go to see at the cinema.
A Good Day to Die Hard

How could you not go and see John McClane at the cinema? Its one of the greatest action series around and the first is probably the best action film of all time. The last two in the franchise have strayed from the classic Die Hard formula but it’s now become much more about Bruce Willis character, rather than the situation he is stuck in. It doesn’t matter what the film is going to be, I will always be first in line for a new Die Hard film.
Iron Man 3

Arguably, Iron Man is the superhero that has been most successful of all The Avengers. The rest of the films were all geared towards the huge team-up movie, rather than feeling like films in their own right. Even though Iron Man 2 could be guilty of that too, Iron Man 1 did a fantastic job of launching a lesser known superhero. It was mostly down to the fantastic casting of Robert Downey Jr as Tony Stark. It will be interesting to see how Marvel attempt to give each hero a single film now that they have been so successful together. Having seen the trailers though, this doesn’t look like it will be a problem.
Star Trek into Darkness

I couldn’t have been happier or more impressed with J.J Abrams reboot of the Star Trek series. It was action packed, intelligent and successfully brought the most dated of the Star Trek series right into the 21st Century. This is becoming the most anticipated film of the year, particularly with the casting of Benedict Cumberbatch as the villain. The footage I have seen of his character from the trailer makes him even more intriguing and considering how well cast the first film was, this one fills me with even more excitement.
Man of Steel

As much as I didn’t really enjoy Superman Returns, there was one key aspect it did do well, the action. No matter how cool every other hero is, Superman, if done right, will always look the best on-screen. I’m hoping with Zack Snyder as the helm and Christopher Nolan lending a guiding hand, that this film manages to sort the story out, as well as the amazing visuals. Regardless of how bad other Superman films have been, he is the most iconic superhero and will always have me buying a cinema ticket.
Monsters University

I can appreciate what Pixar do but I don’t get as excited as most do about their films. Toy Story 3 was the last movie that I had to see at the cinema because I knew the characters and the first two films were so good. The same can be said for Monster’s University, the sequel to Monsters Inc. While I am usually against unnecessary sequels, the first trailer I saw for the film got me very excited. Now lets hope The Incredibles sequel is in development.
Kick Ass 2

I loved Kick Ass. It was a great anti-superhero film, with the heroes being human and normal and the action being gritty and violent. It had great performances, fantastic set-pieces and was as twisted as the comic book source material that inspired it. I’ve read Kick Ass 2 and it’s another brilliant comic from Mark Millar. I just hope they can keep it as gory, dark but as brilliant as the comic is.
The World’s End

Hot Fuzz was a decent enough film but Shaun of the Dead was amazing. No “comedy-horror” has even come close and because of how good that movie was, the thought of anything coming from Simon Pegg, Edgar Wright and Nick Frost will peak my interest. The idea of a pub crawl during the end of the world and the addition of Martin Freeman and Paddy Considine to the cast makes this film even more interesting.
Thor: The Dark World

This is a film I am looking forward to a lot, regardless of the fact that the first one wasn’t the most amazing of movies. Thor is a great character though and has the most interesting of worlds built around him. I’m hoping this film is set in the more mystical realms rather than “real world” because that was the best element of the first film.
The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug

I wasn’t that excited about The Hobbit trilogy when it was first announced and I still think stretching it to three films is pushing it, but regardless, these films are an event and are worth seeing on the big screen. The best elements of the first film was how good it looked and how amazing Middle Earth was on-screen. I’m also hooked in by the story and can’t wait to see Smaug properly, in his full glory.
Anchorman: The Legend Continues

A great way to end the year. This is a film that seems like another unnecessary sequel but the chance to see brand new Ron Burgundy will be too good an opportunity to miss. The fact that the full, original cast seem to be returning, especially considering how big some them have become since the first film, is testament to how good this film could and should be. I just hope it lives up to my high expectations.
Overall, ten films that are definite views at the cinema. They are all films that have my expectations and anticipation sky-high which doesn’t usually bode well but I’m keeping an open mind and counting down to February the 14th when John McClane is back on our screens.

I am going to watch these films so hard!
Thats a great comment!
I’m excited for a lot of these, but I’ll probably wait until Blu-Ray for most of the non-comic-book, non-Die Hard ones. Absolutely no interest in the Hobbit, though.
I’d be the same about The Hobbit but it felt like I was missing something!
It will take a lot to convince me the Monsters U will be worth watching, much as I loved the original. Just saying. I do want to see the next Hobbit film in theaters, if only to fume about Kili’s made-up elven girlfriend.
You obviously know a lot more about The Hobbit than I do. I think Monsters U looks great! Its not a film that needs a sequel but I’ll always trust Pixar.
