Green Lantern (2011) Review

DC made Green Lantern about six years too late. Rather than make a superhero film at the beginning of the superhero craze, alongside Raimi’s Spiderman, Fantastic Four and even Iron Man, they decided to throw their contribution amongst the others when we were at the height of the genre. The problem with doing this is that if you are going to make a film that belongs to genre that is already highly saturated, you have to do it with something original… and Green Lantern isn’t original! It could have been though. DC have Superman and Batman and with those two characters they … Continue reading Green Lantern (2011) Review

My idea for the inevitable Avengers sequel.

As much as I loved Avengers Assemble (my review was ridiculously positive) I left the cinema with one nagging question… what next? Whedon and Marvel did the best thing they could, making this Avengers film as if it was stand-alone, their last effort, the only one. They gave the fans everything they would want to see from an Avengers film, in particular the hero vs hero and the perfectly pitched comedy! The only problem is, where do you go next? What story do you tell that warrants the Avengers Assembling one more time? Furthermore, what story do you tell that ties together all the … Continue reading My idea for the inevitable Avengers sequel.

What should DC do now?

Marvel played the movie game perfectly. What seemed like a crazy, impossible and very cool idea that I didn’t see working, has actually come to fruition fantastically in what I think is the best “proper comics film” ever. If you’d told me five years ago that an Iron Man film would kickstart a series of movies that would bring together all the coolest (except Spiderman and Wolverine) Marvel heroes and whatsmore, be an Avengers film, I’d have given you a long, boring list as to why that would never work. Don’t get me wrong, it hasn’t been a perfect journey. The … Continue reading What should DC do now?

Avengers Assemble (2012) Review

Think of what you wanted from this film – picture it on-screen, actually happening! Now open your eyes and see it because everything I wanted this film to include and hoped to see actual actors perform on-screen is included! Everything! This review is going to be so positive that I don’t actually know where to begin! A couple of months ago I posted an article that compared the three big superhero films this year and weighed up their pros and cons. Avengers had me worried because it was a film that brought together superheros that struggled to tell their own … Continue reading Avengers Assemble (2012) Review

The Incredible Hulk (2008) Re-View

I’m now going to be a complete hypocrite because in my Green Hornet review I said that Marvel had ruined all superhero films. This isn’t actually true. They have watered down the whole genre meaning that you almost have to do something completely different with every single superhero film to stop yourself from making something generic and average. I thought Thor and Captain America were average. They portrayed their superhero’s brilliantly but I’d already seen that kind of superhero film with Iron Man and the Incredible Hulk. That meant that when I re-watched the Incredible Hulk, I thought it would fall into the average … Continue reading The Incredible Hulk (2008) Re-View

The Green Hornet (2011) Review

Marvel has destroyed all superhero films! There was a time when a superhero film was an event – the first Spiderman, any Superman film, any Batman film (until Batman and Robin) but now they are a predictable addition to every summer movies list it has destroyed the very genre itself and Marvel are to blame. The reason they are to blame is because they decided on the brilliant idea of creating a string of films that will culminate with this summers Avengers film. This meant that for the Avengers film to be a reality, they had to release at least … Continue reading The Green Hornet (2011) Review
